Art and science collide in a fascinating exhibition exploring the quantum universe.
This ambitious, co-created project has forged links between The University of Nottingham’s Faculty of Science and Lakeside Arts, exploring the mind-blowing world of quantum science in 2025.
Cosmic Titans: Art, Science and the Quantum Universe included newly commissioned works by nine artists who have worked alongside leading University of Nottingham scientists – who are at the cutting edge of research into quantum science and have established the university as a centre of excellence in this rapidly evolving field.
The exhibition was curated by Professor Silke Weinfurtner from the School of Mathematical Sciences – whose pioneering work in the field of black hole simulations remains unrivalled, Dr Ulrike Kuchner, Senior Researcher in Astronomy and ArtScience collaborations in the School of Physics and Astronomy, and Neil Walker, Head of Visual Arts Programming, Lakeside Arts. Support was given by the University’s VIP Studio.
This collaborative project has enabled the commission of six new works of art that were premiered at the Djanogly Gallery. The works were inspired by time spent by the artists in residence at science labs at The University of Nottingham and further afield.
The exhibition ran from January to April 2025, and will open at Science Gallery London in October 2025 - find out more about that here:
